Longtime lurker here, Military spouse here. Rent is about $2,313/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $305,000 on average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Any advice would be great. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for work and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The public transit is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in East area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.
