What Heath does better than anywhere else

Hey, I grew up here but left for a while. The median home value here is around $215,000, which is actually reasonable. Median household income is $74,773, which feels about average for the area. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What do you all think? The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I work in finance here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is excellent. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The walkability is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 3 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is improving.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 5 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into running, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Cedar Grove for 12 years. Moved from Portland for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is decent - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Limited high-paying job options. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Uptown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- The pet-friendliness scene is average

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Eastside. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
