Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Denver about 8 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely underrated and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Eastside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Moved here from Phoenix about 8 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to dating scene but It's not for everyone but it works for us..
