OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Italian.
No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 56, moved here 15 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Midtown and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Property taxes are high
3. The housing market situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for young professionals. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 3 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
