Is Hempstead getting better or worse?

Random thought, Just moved here 2 months ago and Poverty rate is 13.0%, which is around average. Median household income is $82,454, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $82,454 in Hempstead. Homes are going for about $442,100 on average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.
