OK so Crime rate is something to consider -Hempstead sits at 119.0 per 100K. Poverty rate is 13.0%, which is around average. With a population of 58,569, Hempstead is a smaller city. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Any advice would be great. Thanks for reading. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Westside. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in real estate. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 15 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been here 11 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is excellent.

I've been here 4 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is hit or miss.
