I'm a 50-year-old data analyst and It's a a smaller city city with about 62,390 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Hendersonville sits at 171.3 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Let me know your thoughts. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 8 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much reasonable but now it's decent.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 38, moved here 5 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Westside and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The food scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely average and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Eastside) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is challenging.
