Random thought, I work in education and Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. Rent is about $688/month for a decent place. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Looking forward to hearing from you all. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Bought a house here in 2022 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to LA it's average.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely improving and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. dating scene used to be much pricey but now it's decent.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in South area are tough. Kids love it here.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.
