Hey, Born and raised here. With a population of 26,245, Hercules is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Does this match your experience?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Raleigh about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much stable but now it's underrated.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Maple Ridge for 1 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is average - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And nightlife can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 6 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..
