Moving to Hermantown -what should I know?

I grew up here but left for a while. The median home value here is around $374,000, which seems about average. It's a a small town city with about 10,192 people. Homes are going for about $374,000 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Has anyone dealt with this? TIA! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Highland) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
