Couple moving to Hesperia from out of state

Curious what people think. We're a young couple and With a population of 100K, Hesperia is a mid-size city. Median household income is $68,971, which feels about average for the area. The unemployment rate is 5.6%, which is about average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Looking forward to hearing from you all. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Used to live on the Sunset side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Tampa about 13 years ago. The main reasons were school and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 47, moved here 12 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Midtown and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited shopping options
3. The healthcare situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Chicago it's tough.
