Moving to Hialeah for work — advice?

Been meaning to ask this. It's a a mid-size city city with about 222K people. The median home value here is around $359,200, which seems about average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Any advice would be great. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 4 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much pricey but now it's solid.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 53, moved here 8 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in The Heights and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
