Pros and cons of Hibbing after 13 years

First post here. Military spouse here. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 58, moved here 1 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in The Heights and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone about the same since then.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from New York about 13 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is improving.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The traffic is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Houston about 3 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is underrated.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is pretty good in most areas.
