Day-to-day life in Hicksville, NY
Anyone else feel this way? Just moved here 7 months ago and You can expect to pay around $3,005 for rent here. It's a a smaller city city with about 43,868 people. Poverty rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $148,008, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development.
Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Lots of new development
- Active local events
Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Boring for young people
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
- Not enough green space
Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.
