First time home buyer in Hidalgo

My partner and I are You can expect to pay around $849 for rent here. Household incomes average around $53,667 in Hidalgo. The unemployment rate is 4.9%, which is about average. It's a a small town city with about 14,250 people. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance! I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I've lived in Uptown for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- The cost of living scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in legal. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- The job market scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..
