Is High Point good for remote workers?

Longtime lurker here, We're a young couple and Homes are going for about $212,400 on average. Median household income is $61,228, which feels about average for the area. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 40, moved here 3 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Highland and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The safety situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2024 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
