Moving to High Point with kids -good idea?

First post here. I'm a teacher here and The median home value here is around $212,400, which is actually reasonable. Crime rate is something to consider -High Point sits at 730.8 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Should I be concerned? TIA! The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 47, moved here 7 years ago from LA. I've lived in Highland and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Four distinct seasons
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Can feel isolated
3. The food scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in real estate. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
