Freelancing from High Springs -experience?

Hey folks, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and With a population of 6,396, High Springs is a small town. Rent is about $1,707/month for a decent place. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Let me know your thoughts.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from San Francisco about 3 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely improving and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.
