My family moved here when I was a kid. It's a a small town city with about 1,079 people. Homes are going for about $225,600 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What would you do? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (East) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Dallas it's solid.

Moved here from LA about 15 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to healthcare but Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The pet-friendliness is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely pretty good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 10 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
