Dog-friendly places in Highland?

Am I wrong here? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Miami it's excellent.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 7 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Miami about 6 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in South area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 58, moved here 5 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The safety situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much wild but now it's average.

Came here for weather and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The dating scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
