Hey everyone, I'm a 25-year-old social worker and The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Has anyone dealt with this? TIA! The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 1 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in legal. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.
