How much do you pay for rent in Highland?

I relocated for work and You can expect to pay around $2,100 for rent here. With a population of 19,625, Highland is a small town. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Is this normal for Highland? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in East for 13 years. Moved from Baltimore for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Can feel isolated. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor recreation is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 9 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
