Just moved to Highlands, any tips?

I'm originally from Memphis and It's a a small town city with about 4,575 people. Median household income is $90,082, which feels pretty solid for the area. With a population of 4,575, Highlands is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Highlands sits at 42.2 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I wrong here? Looking forward to hearing from you all.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 28, moved here 8 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Uptown and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The healthcare situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for remote workers. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely challenging and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (East) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely challenging and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 10 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
