Moving to Hillcrest for work -advice?

Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. The median home value here is around $250,300, which seems about average. Household incomes average around $44,954 in Hillcrest. Median household income is $44,954, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 27, moved here 3 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Fairview and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The job market situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
