What I wish I knew before living in Hillcrest
Random thought, We're a young couple and Crime rate is something to consider -Hillcrest sits at 209.2 per 100K. Homes are going for about $250,300 on average. Poverty rate is 26.4%, which is higher than I expected. The unemployment rate is 5.0%, which is about average. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.
Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Easy commute
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Cold winters
- Lack of diversity
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Not enough green space
Anyone in a similar situation? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.
