It's a a small town city with about 8,989 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What do you all think? Any help is appreciated. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 8 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Old Town for 8 years. Moved from San Diego for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Property taxes are high. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

I'm a chef and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.
