Longtime lurker here, I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $360,000 on average. With a population of 36,560, Hilliard is a smaller city. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I overthinking this? Any help is appreciated. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Came here for retirement and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The traffic is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in construction. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like sushi.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in construction. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Thai.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Highland for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- The traffic scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..
