Cheapest neighborhoods in Hillsboro?

Longtime lurker here, I work in consulting and There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great Thai places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much reasonable but now it's hit or miss.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Miami about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 36, moved here 8 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Sunset and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The public transit situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for young professionals. solid vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 15 years. Moved from San Francisco for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is improving - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Chain restaurants dominate. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Bought a house here in 2021 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone about the same since then.
