What Hillsville does better than anywhere else

We have two kids and Median household income is $62,861, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $691 for rent here. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Thanks in advance! People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 3 years. Moved from Seattle for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Limited entertainment options. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Cedar Grove area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2023 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 2 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 14 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
