Affordable areas near Hillview?

Hey everyone, Just moved here 10 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Hillview sits at 86.6 per 100K. Rent is about $1,314/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What would you do? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much reasonable but now it's challenging.

Came here for school and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The safety is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The school system is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 43, moved here 8 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Westside and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Four distinct seasons
2. Affordable housing options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The weather situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for couples. solid vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $70K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
