Hilmar-Irwin job market vs Tucson

Hey folks, Born and raised here. Household incomes average around $76,492 in Hilmar-Irwin. The median home value here is around $420,600, which is pretty steep. With a population of 6,317, Hilmar-Irwin is a small town. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Am I overthinking this? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely pretty good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (The Heights) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great sushi places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Portland about 9 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is tough.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much manageable but now it's excellent.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- The cost of living scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..
