OK so I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Median household income is $96,715, which feels pretty solid for the area. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Has anyone dealt with this? The suburbs are where most families end up.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2019 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in finance. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The food scene is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The cultural scene is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely average and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Fairview) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 5 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.
