Working remotely from Hilton Head Island

Hey, I'm a remote worker and Rent is about $1,518/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Let me know your thoughts. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Bought a house here in 2021 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've lived in Riverside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- The community vibe scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 51, moved here 13 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Fairview and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited entertainment options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The school system situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for families. solid vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 5 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely underrated and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 15 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Highland for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- The weather scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..
