Hey, I work in real estate and Median household income is $96,715, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $96,715 in Hilton Head Island. It's a a smaller city city with about 37,805 people. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 3 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

I've lived in Eastside for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The weather scene is average
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..
