Raising a family in Hobart -thoughts?
Not sure if this has been asked before, but Military spouse here. Homes are going for about $203,400 on average. It's a a smaller city city with about 29,646 people. Household incomes average around $71,680 in Hobart. Rent is about $1,174/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.
Pros:
- Great weather
- Nice parks and trails
- Lots of new development
- Strong sense of community
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Mosquitoes and humidity
What would you do? The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.
