Longtime lurker here, Household incomes average around $111,918 in Hobart. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks in advance! Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Austin it's tough.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 2 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is challenging in most areas.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely pretty good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Springfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
