Job market in Hoboken for tech?

We have two kids and It's a a smaller city city with about 58,340 people. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Does this match your experience? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 1 years. Moved from Atlanta for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is solid - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Far from beaches/mountains. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 2 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 25, moved here 14 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Greenfield and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Close to major attractions
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The pet-friendliness situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (North) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The job market is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Pine Hills. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
