Considering Holbrook vs Portland -help me decide

Anyone else feel this way? The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I've been here 13 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been in Meadowbrook for 9 years. Moved from Denver for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is average - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Dating scene is rough. Far from beaches/mountains. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is improving - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Not very walkable outside downtown. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely pretty good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
