Why I chose Holbrook over bigger cities

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Military spouse here. The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely underrated and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Fairview) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- The outdoor recreation scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely challenging and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (West) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to San Francisco it's better than expected.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cost of living scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The cost of living is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
