Hey everyone, I'm single, late 20s, and Household incomes average around $41,413 in Holdenville. Rent is about $599/month for a decent place. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely solid and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 11 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.
