Life in Holland as a young professional

Hey folks, My partner and I are Crime rate is something to consider -Holland sits at 380.7 per 100K. The median home value here is around $235,800, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $1,143 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Should I be concerned? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Phoenix about 11 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 50, moved here 7 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Riverside and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Good schools in most areas
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited shopping options
3. The job market situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
