Affordable areas near Hollins?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm retired and Rent is about $1,113/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $73,588 in Hollins. The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What do you all think? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Pine Hills area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is tough in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely solid and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Midtown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Westside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the West side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
