Best hidden gems in Hollins

I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,113/month for a decent place. Median household income is $73,588, which feels about average for the area. Household incomes average around $73,588 in Hollins. Crime rate is something to consider -Hollins sits at 343.6 per 100K. Poverty rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited nightlife
- Lack of diversity
- Far from major airports
- Limited cultural events
TIA! It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 33, moved here 12 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in North and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The dating scene situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for young professionals. average vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
