First time home buyer in Holloman AFB

First post here. Rent is about $1,236/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Is this normal for Holloman AFB?

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The school system is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..
