Hi all, I've been here for 17 years and Crime rate is something to consider — Hollywood sits at 291.1 per 100K. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Am I overthinking this?

I've lived in Sunset for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- The school system scene is average
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely excellent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The weather is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Springfield. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
