Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm originally from Boston and Rent is about $1,323/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Is this normal for Holt? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 6 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely excellent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
