Housing market in Holt right now

First post here. We're a young couple and Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. The suburbs are where most families end up. Is this normal for Holt? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 2 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely tough and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (South) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Uptown for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- The community vibe scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 6 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.
