Honest thoughts on life in Homer

Not sure if this has been asked before, but You can expect to pay around $1,230 for rent here. Poverty rate is 6.9%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Bought a house here in 2024 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (South) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
