Hi all, Homes are going for about $502,300 on average. Rent is about $1,457/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Homewood sits at 258.7 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Would love some local perspective. Looking forward to hearing from you all. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'm a pharmacist and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much developing but now it's surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely challenging and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Uptown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.
