What to expect moving to Homewood?

Hey everyone, I'm a college student here and Poverty rate is 17.0%, which is higher than I expected. Household incomes average around $44,466 in Homewood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Should I be concerned? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely decent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (The Heights) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
